On this the thirteenth day of May AD eighteen hundred and seventy one, personally appeared before me Sylvester Greathouse, Clerk of the County Court, a court of record in and for the County and state aforesaid. Sarah L. Arnold, aged 80 years, a resident of Bonpas Precinct County of Wabash and State of Illinois, who being duly sworn according to law, declares that she is the widow of John Arnold, who served the full period of sixty days in the Military Service of the United States in the War of 1812, and who was the identical John Arnold who was a private in Captain (name not known) Company,(don't remember) Regiment (don't remember) Kentucky Vols. Brigade, (don't remember) division, at Nelson or Bullitt Co. Ky on the --day of --1812, and was honorably discharged at (place not known) on the (no date) of __1813, that the said John Arnold was in the Battle-of Horse Shoe Bend -- that the discharge and other papers in the possession of claimant were destroyed she living in Missouri and had them there, they were destroyed while she was on a visit to Illinois during the time of the Great Rebellion - that she was married under the name of Sarah E. Jordan to said John Arnold on the fifth day of Sept AD 1813, by on Shevero, a Catholic Priest - at St. Clair's Church Hardin Co. Ky there being no legal barrier to such marriage, that her said husband died at Jasper Co., Illinois, on the first day of March 1841, and that she has not remarried since his death, that at no time during the late rebellion against the authority of the United States did she or her said husband adhere to the cause of the enemies of the Government, giving them aid or comfort, or exercise the functions of any office whatever under any authority, or pretended authority, in hostility to the United States, that she will support the constitution of the United States, that she is not in receipt of a pension under any previous act, that she makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension rolls of the United States, under the provisions of the act approved February 14, 181_ and hereby constitutes and appoints, with full power of substitution and revocation R. H. Hudson of Mount Carmel Ills, her true and lawful attorney, to prosecute her claim, and obtain the pension certificate that may be issued, that her post office is at Friend Grove, County of Wabash, State of Illinois,that her domicile or place of abode is with her Son in Law, Wm C. Deputy in said Bonpas precinct Wabash Co. Ills.

Also personally appeared David Martin and Wm C. Deputy residing at Mt. Carmel Precinct Wabash Co Ill, and at Bonpas Precinct in said County and State persons whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit, and who being by me duly sworn, say they were present and saw Sarah E. Arnold, the claimant make her mark to the pregoing declaration, that they have every reason to believe, from the appearance of said claimant, and their acquaintance with her, that she is the identical person she represents herself to be, and at no time during the late rebellion against the authority of the United States did she, or her said husband, adhere to the cause of the enemies of the Government, or give them aid or comfort, and that they have no interest in the prosecution of this claim.
