October 1, 1823 Mecklenburg County, Virginia .
Know all men by these presents that we, Lawson H. Alexander and Nathe. Alexander are held and firmly bound unto James Pleasants, Jr., Esquire, Governor and Chief Magistrate of the Commonwealth of Virginia and to his successors in the first and full sum of one hundred and fifty dollars to which payment will and truly be made to the said Governor and his successors for the use of the Commonwealth, we bind ourselves, our heirs, etc., jointly and severally firmly by these presents, sealed with our seals and dated this first day of October, 1823..
The condition of the above obligations is such that when as there is a marriage intended to be solemnized between the above bound L.H. Alexander and Lucy Jane Alexander of the County, none if there be no lawful cause to obstruct same, then this obligation to be void or else to remain in full force and virtue..
