Notes: Henry C. DEPUTY
Birth (about 1814): The 1840 census says 1817; the 1850 census says 1814; the 1860 census says 1813. We're taking the mode.
Living (1840): Henry C. does not appear in the 1840 US census in any state. However, the 1850 US census identifies 10yo daughter Sarah as having been born in "Michigan" (Michigan City), so Henry & Leah must have been living there since prior to 1840.
Living (12 March 1840): Witnesses to a relative's marriage in Niles, Michigan.
Living (1 August 1854): Henry C. Deputy filed a ship-building patent with the US Patent office, 1 Aug 1854, while he was living in Michigan City, LaPorte County, Indiana.
Living (9 August 1861): Henry C Deputy is noted in a Milford, DE newspaper in 1861 as busy building ships in the Milford ship yards.
Notes (Family #1)
Census (fam) (1850): The 1850 census-taker marked the birthplace of all of the children as "Michigan". But later censuses showed their birthplace as "Indiana", so we are concluding that "Michigan" meant "Michigan City, IN" in 1850.
Census (fam) (1860): Henry and family are living back in Sussex County, Delaware by 1860.
